The image on the label depicts the great-grandfather of owner Flori Uka, chosen to symbolise the northern wine-growing areas where the Kallmet grape variety is cultivated, recognised as the most prized native Albanian variety. The name derives from the town of the same name, which represents the core of the area where this variety reaches its highest qualitative expression.
The Kallmet Rosso of the young Uka Wine cellar comes from only Kallmet grapes cultivated according to organic farming principles in the area of Naraç, just south of the town of Shkodër in northern Albania. The harvest, carried out by hand in a single vineyard, takes place at a slightly late stage and the bunches are immediately transported to the winery by refrigerated trucks. The grapes then undergo 48 hours of pre-fermentation cryomaceration before alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 12-15 days in contact with the skins. Subsequently, the wine spends 4 months maturing in 500-litre oak barrels and is finally bottled and left to rest for a year before release.
Uka Wine's Rosso Kallmet has an intense ruby red colour.
